Activities Supported by the Organization
- Fayetteville
Youth Dental Program--Support of the NWA Technical
Center Dental Program for underprivileged children
- Ozark Literacy
Council--Support of the efforts to teach adult non-readers
to read
- Music &
Literacy Awareness--In-school programs to promote
litereacy through music
- Arkansas Girl's
State--Provide funding for worthy high school
students to attend the summer program for leadership
training for young women.
- Newspapers in
Education--Provide funding to schools in order for
teachers to have access to free newspapers to teach
lessons.
- Kids "Trade-a-Book"
-- A Spring event where young people are encouraged
to trade in their old books for new books.
- Arkanss Adopt-A-Highway--Members
help maintain a stretch of road.
- Scholarships:
Lilliam Wood Scholarship (A scholarship for
women who are single parents); Technical Scholarship (for
lower income women seeking technical training).
Additional scholarships are also funded.
- Salvation Army
Medical Fund--funding to help with the medical
expenses of poor people.
- Northwest
Arkansas Drug Court--Help with organization of the
drug court in High Schools and Junior High Schools in
Northwest Arkansas so students can see first hand the
damage and pitfalls of drug addiction. In addition
Altrusa is raising money for scholarships for individuals
who have successfully completed the drug court
intervention program and wish to seek further education.
- Environmental
Award--An award given each year to an outstanding
organization and/or project which promotes sound
envrionmental practices.
- Life Styles
Emergency fund--Funding to help with emergency funds
to the Life Styles Organization.
- United Way
Washington County--Assistance with promoting and
raising funds for the local United Way.
- Astra--An organization for
young women in high school to teach them the benefits and
rewards of helping the less fortunate in the community.
